From the studio of Susan Harrison-Tustain March 2008 'EUROPE: An Artist's Mediterranean Odyssey' Hi everyone, Fabulous news! Some of you may know that Richard and I have been asked to host a superb tour of our favourite places in Europe. The brochure for our European tour is now available - hot off the press today! It's titled 'EUROPE: An artist's Mediterranean odyssey'. Sounds exciting doesn't it?
The tour begins at our favourite Provencal village: St Paul de Vence. Six nights and days in the magical French Riviera, full of exploring and relaxing. We will visit the fabulous market in the old quarter of Nice, amazing art galleries, the fairytale principality of Monaco, Cannes and so much more. We will capture the magic of Provence in watercolor with me to instruct and inspire you.
I will demonstrate, guide and show you how to paint wonderful watercolors of your journey. These will not be intensive, 'full-on' workshops such as those I conduct in New Zealand and the US. Instead they will be run in a more informal atmosphere with the emphasis on painting en plein air - finding a beautiful little spot in the village to sit and paint while surrounded by the sound of the birds and village life and the aromas that are unmistakably Provence. Maybe you would like to keep a journal with painted cameos of the essence of the places we visit? The painting time will be comprised of four mornings in St Paul de Vence and one morning by stunning Lake Maggiore. We will find many magical places within the village and create individual paintings - cameos of your journey and studies for future paintings too.
Richard will offer five workshops: three on how to get the most out of your camera and to take a fabulous record of this magical tour. His other passion - apart from me of course - is wine appreciation. He will share his knowledge about this rich subject in two wine appreciation workshops.
After St Paul we are off to Stresa (Italian Lakes - Lake Maggiore). Staying in a stunning hotel - Grand Hotel Bristol - with amazing views from every room. There is an incredible side trip included: a cruise to the Borromean Islands which are steeped in history. The gardens are superb and wonderful for future painting subject matter. The following day we have a morning of painting ancient Stresa and Lake Maggiore. A lovely relaxing evening.
Then on to Venice! After a day of exploring to your hearts content - there is an evening surprise awaiting us there. We have almost two full free days in Venice to explore and find more painting subjects, and acquaint ourselves with this mystical place. Around every corner is a compelling painting just waiting to be created!
The following evening we board a fabulous cruise. The ship is the stunning Holland America Line Zuiderdam. The 12-day cruise takes us down the Adriatic Sea and into the Aegean Sea. We visit Croatia, Greece (including Greek islands) and Turkey - then back to disembark in Venice. There is so much to say about the cruise and itinerary - I don't know where to begin. My words can't do justice to what is ahead.
It is all so breathtaking. As I said - around every corner is a wonderful painting and photograph.
United Travel is one of New Zealand's largest and most professional travel companies. Kay Rogers owns five of the United Travel offices and she specialises in arranging exciting and exotic tours. So this is going to be a very unique tour experience and I'm sure it will fill quickly. We expect the official launch to be either later this week or early next week.
You may know Richard has been a tour leader in Europe and we have both travelled extensively, so this tour is designed for 'life-style'. The itinerary is for those who enjoy a leisurely tour without rush and bustle. It is about sitting back, relaxing, painting, exploring and discovering a magical part of Europe in the company of friends. It is about quality travel but with a twist. It is for those who love fine art, for those who would like to paint in exotic places or keep a painted journal of a magical tour. Partners are welcome to join in with the painting or to take up one of the other many options on offer. It is also about experiencing and finding out about fine wines and great photography for painting and recording your memories of this journey through these ancient and compelling places.
Well now I am even more excited! Writing about this trip really whets my appetite and I can't wait!
Hope you can join us - that would be so much fun!
