Christmas Message  -   December 2008

With Christmas knocking on our door along with all of the festivities, beautiful lights and time spent with friends and family I appreciate this special time to say a personal thank you to you all for your support and interest in my work. I appreciate your lovely comments and thoughtfulness.

It is humbling to know that my work, workshops, DVDs, books and newsletters reach people in countries from all around the world.

This year has been a time of mixed blessings for many. It is at times of change that I am reminded of the importance of people – not only our family and friends, but people as a whole. In times of adversity isn’t it wonderful to see people unite in a common goal and work together to achieve a better world.

On a more personal note, Richard and I are about to welcome our first grandchild into the world. I dare say I should mention our daughter Shelley and son-in-law Nick did have something to do with it too!

I have been thinking how we, as parents and also grandparents can introduce our children to the joy of art and painting. I recently replied to a message from an artist who told me how her mother had introduced her to art:

"It is lovely that your mother has influenced you with her love of roses. What a precious gift you have been able to share together. It is a lovely notion for me. My mother was the person who introduced me to painting too. Although she passed away when I was a teenager - her love, nurturing and gentle nature live on in my heart and also in my art. I paint because she opened a window for me to see my potential. That is what I want to do for my students.
Happy painting!
Susan"

Art brings an renewed and more heightened appreciation and awareness of the small wholesome things in life. It is a gift we can all share with everyone, especially our 'little ones'. I think the ' icing on the cake' is that the paintings we create will live on for generations.

Richard and I send you our very best wishes for a lovely Christmas and a 2009 full of hope, inspiration and all the things that make you happy.
