Hi Paula,
The painting is very eyecatching with the lovely clean colours . I particularly like the way you faded out the green background near the top. Works really well.

Hello Paula, A beautiful painting, the nose on its own is a masterpiece, lovely blending, and that whimsical smile is just lovely.   I am pleased that you tried the Hot pressed paper, it makes a wonderful difference, especially for work that requires fine detail, it almost gives a porcelain look, I love it, the feel of it, and the way the pigment flows and blends means that we can achieve what we want in our paintings.  Congratulation, look forward to your next.  Regards, Patricia.

Hi Paula i really love that painting. It is gorgeous love the expression, it also reminds me a bit of the one i want to do of my grandson, just wondering, is this a good enough picture to use?, cant seem to get a high definition, but  wonder if that really matters.Love the dirty face, but the highlight in the middle of the pupil, might be difficult. Just hoping I can get some advice on this from all you guys, going to attempt this,LOL and another of my two granddaughters

Hi Maylon,
Gorgeous photo and handsome grandson the eye are amazing color, save another copy of the pic and use one to crop the eye area so that you can see all the details make sure you save the pics of the original adding an( a )next to it so that you have the original and a crop version .Paint what you see I think the highlight could be moved a little it is very small .Bruce in his Imogene portrait only added the highlight and not the window shape in the eye I loved that shape of the highlight and added mine in and I was thrilled with the result.

Hello Maylon, Beautiful, natural photograph, I can understand you wanting to capture this one in paint, good advice from Marylka, perhaps Bruce could also help you out here with some suggestions, I'm sure it must have happened to him in the past.  Good luck with the painting, and don't forget to keep us posted.  Regards, Patricia.

Maylon, What a handsome fella! His eye color is similar to one of my grand daughters. I think the photo is very clear.
The only thing I think is difficult to paint is a dirty face. Somehow in a painting it does not read true no matter what. In the photo it is adorable.

Hi All thanks for all that wonderful advice, I will do that Marylka and I know what you mean. He really is a gorgeous child, like his dad, my son, who is drop dead gorgeous, his sisters, one his twin, are just as cute. Huge challenge, I can tell you. Going to be a while though, as I have two I am working on before this, a landscape with reflections ,on Arches 300gr CP (never used before) and 2 toads, which I absolutely LOVE,on Arches HP 300gr (Susan`s) both very challenging, I am really starting to push myself, got all my paper cut and ready. I love looking at the white w/c paper and thinking Wow!!!!, is this one going to be OK, when finished etc, sure all of us do that. It is really amazing seeing that blank paper, sweat ..... curse........looks terrible...one more wash....perseverere.....then wallah!!! a lovely (hopefully) painting, or a learning exercise/flop. We never know. People who do not paint do not get that, it is like giving birth can be quite painful, but oh so rewarding  in the end.

Like giving birth....I love that analogy! Can be painful going through it but the rewards are enormous! Cheesy

Hi Maylon,
It's good to challenge yourself I always do too ,it takes us to the next level even if it's not what we do doesn't not work out .I'm sure the master's had failures along the way, it's what we learn from them that is the great  thing they also painted several times some of their work before they were satisfied, I expect to get it right every time but if it doesn't happen I go on to another. With every piece I learn something new .

This is a new painting from the delightful photo on PMP by Pixel Bloke, I dont usually do paintings directly from one photo, but fell in love with the photo. Drove my husband absolutely mad with this one,as I sang the whole way through the painting, the song "Mr Froggy went a courtin and he did ride, Ah Ha!!!" repeatedly.
It was surprisingly difficult, this HP is NOT easy, and as usual the photo is very washed out, but it is the best I can do, it is quiet small as well, maybe that is why I found it challenging. I am not giving up with this paper, ever. The painting actually looks more like the thumbnail.

Hi Maylon ,
Great to see you posting they are so cute great reflections too. With the hp paper I have gotten used to it now, when i use cp I find that different To me hp paper lends itself more to wet in wet then the pigment flows beautifully I found that when i'm wet on dry glazing the pigment does not flow as well for me.I was doing some shading on cloth 1st wash was streaky then I changed to wet on wet is was smoother, I wanted to do wet on dry glazing for the control as I wanted to leave the white highlights on the cloth.

Hi Marylka, i agree with you about the HP, this is the fourth time i have used it, and I am getting used to it. It is the trickiest to paint on in my opinion, but I do think if I stick to 2 maybe three papers, it will help, I now keep notes to help me remember, of colours everything I did, what worked and what did not etc.
Must say you are amazing, have you got longer hours in Aussie or something?, how you fit it all in is amazing, always helping everyone out, never missing a thing, and painting away.LOL
Thanks for the comment though, difficult little painting as I like to be a bit freer, and as this is so small 6"x 7", it was difficult to see properly, loved the photo, had to give it a go, as I also am fond of frogs, they are so cute.
