I am so excited to read that the next dvd will feature birds. I also like the idea of painting other little creatures, as someone has already mentioned here.

I have only two of your DVD's - the first two I believe - however, maybe you could develop a DVD for more advanced students.  In all the DVD's I've seen (not just yours) there is a lot of time spent on the materials, etc.  although it is nice to know what the artist is using, most of us have our own preferences for brands, brushes, paper, etc.  But I would like a DVD to spend more time on instruction if possible.

I also agree with LIzzie.. Every dvd you have made you go through all the materials, stretching etc etc.. Would be nice to make a DVD for the more experienced like Lizzie suggests. For get about the basics and get on with really intricate work.. Enjoyed the dvd where you did a short thing on fingers and hands. That would be great similar to that.

Like feathers, fine lettering like you have in your paintings of books, clock face.., oil in a lantern and the like.. Most of us I think have had enough of all the intro you need this you need that..

Great artist you are.

Materials list and instruction is practical to have on the DVD. It serves the many and not just the few.
I believe there are many who would grab up her DVD for the 1st time and would be unhappy to not know what she is using to create her art. What pigments and so forth. Her selection of pigments, paper and method of using them are the key to her paintings and why they turn out the way do. A materials list and how to use them is essential. If those of you do not wish to see that chapter, then you can skip it. She puts enormous time and effort in the actual instruction and well worth every dime.
But...Yes, it would be great to have more instruction on advanced techniques though as you say.

Johnie I agree with Renee. Skip the intro. If that information was not there, I'm sure that there would be an avalanche on requests for the art supplies used.I have many DVD by Other artist and they only offer 1disc DVD where Susan has 2 disc DVD and the way she teaches is so comphrehensive I have not experienced by any other artist.I think what we are saying we would like more as i'm sure that will happen given time  this is only the 3rd and what's been covered in that would take years to learn by any other way :DMarylka

Like I said I have them all..

And there are 6 dvd's not 3..

I agree with what you both say. BUT.. I would think if there was a dvd made by Susan that had the content that I suggest previously others more than likely would already have the other dvd's or at least one of them that gives all the pertinent beginner information. That's all was suggesting..

Example.
I have all of Richard Schmid's oil painting dvd's. He only goes into his materials and palette , brushes, mediums etc etc on his first one when he paints when its snowing.. lol was funny to watch..

So there you go. It has been done before.

The thread title is "What would you like Susan's next DVD to feature".

That is what ' I ' would like her next dvd to feature.
Did not think there would be a debate. ; - )

I do not see any debate. Just thoughts. LOL! I keep this on friendly terms always. Wink Just wondering and curious.
You stated Every dvd she has made go through all the materials, stretching, etc. Since you pointed out she has 6, not 3, are you saying this is in every DVD?

As Marylka pointed out, each set are 2 DVD s. 3 sets. The materials list and how to use them are on the 1st DVD of each set. She does 5 hours of instruction and that does not include all the palette and stretching talk.

She could easily put out just 1 DVD like the others and not bother with materials etc,. But the price would be the same and you would not have all those extra hours of instruction that you get with the set of 2
DVD s.

Hi

Well.. I bought her first two Dvd's way back when they were sold individually. Titles were "Glorious Garden Flowers in WC "  and "One on One WC".  I think they were then put into a 2 dvd set. I think was maybe a year or even two years after they were out in singles.

So that is 2  DVD's

The other sets here Daughter portrait dvd and the Tea Cup dvd are 2 dvd packs in each topic dvd set.

So that is 2 + 2 = 4

Total = 6

No the materials and paints etc are only on the first two dvds with the florals and then only on the first dvd of the double sets.

your turn ; - )

Johnnie

Oh,, I did not just show up here the other day, just in case your wondering. I been here around 2 years or so.. I been reading a lot then decided to jump in..

You are being picky now LOL yes the first where VHS Cheesy Now 3 x2 disk sets=6 see we get the same answer
How come it took you so long to jump in?
I'm sure you noted that the materials have changed as new and better product or additional pigments we get to know about.
You will have to post some of your work.

Cheesy Yes, we count 6 actual DVDs. LOL! But now days they are bought in sets. The 2nd set was for one painting. The portrait of her daughter. The DVD painting watercolor my way is for 1 painting as well. The tea cup and rose. If you want to be picky, Grin LOL, we can say there are dozens of lessons within each one! That would be much more than 6 DVDs if she sold them by the lesson like many other artists do.
Since Susan has updated her palette over those years since her  very 1st VHS and her book and a few other supplies as well, she really needed to update her students on these changes in her new DVD s.

Since her 1st two were sold as VHS and separate, that explains why she explained her materials in both. But those two have lots of lessons within. OMG! I Love both of them. They are still my favorites because there are so many different subjects within each one.

Glad to have you on here Johnnie! You are fun to chat with. I'm enjoying your input very much. Wink

Hello Johnnie, Great to see your work, so glad that you posted them, I particularly like the one of the girl, it reminds me of the paintings produced by (I think) Renoir, she certainly has a look of a young, French lady!  an interesting use of the brush, it is very atmospheric, also the middle painting, again very atmospheric, I like the use of the colour, it gives it a low glow, as if it is almost evening, is the colour, raw sienna?  Regards, Patricia.

Love them! I am taken with the girl as well. I love the style! It really does look like pastels! Wonderful job on that and the others as well. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi
No, the colours I used are New Gamboge, Windsor Red, and Windsor Blue.

just a wash of gamboge watered down a lot in the sky. and quite a bit  more pigment from the horizon down.

Mixed windsor red and gamboge to a pinkish colour.

Mixed all three of colours to a raw sienna type of colour. While wet dabbed the barn area for atmospheric affect.

I did these before I ever new of Susan. This barn scene was a lesson out of a book.. Don't remember the book.

I also dabble with acrylics and oils. Have not painted since my wife died tho, that will be 3 years this may. Got to get it together again.

Anyway thanks for the cudos.

Johnnie

Below is an Acrylic. Hangs my daughters wall. Photo here is terrible but you get the idea.
