Watercolor Instruction DVD – Painting Watercolor My Way
![]() |
| Disc One: Experience the feeling of having a one-on-one workshop with Susan. Susan's welcome and introduction begin in her own garden. Watch as she selects the perfect rose for the still-life subject. Enjoy a sneak preview of what is ahead through an initial animation of each of the painting stages. This still life subject is specifically chosen as it covers numerous textures, surfaces, methods, demonstrations of the hints and tips and all of the invaluable breakthroughs Susan has discovered in her painting career. Although beautiful in it's own right - the subject is just a 'vehicle' to introduce you to the techniques Susan has developed that give her paintings a true sense of presence. Materials: Watch as Susan demystifies stretching watercolor paper and tells you how to avoid all of the 'traps for young players'. And then it's into the fun part - applying the colors. See how Susan's trademark 'map', created by yellow underwashes, are layed in using her 'priming method'. This underwash gives her paintings that magical glow that influences all of the subsequent hues. Watch as she teaches how to create a feeling of substance as her subjects emerge from the paper. The fine veils of transparent color allow her paintings to come alive. Look over her shoulder as she explains in full detail, everything she is doing and why. That is the secret to her teaching and painting. Learn why things work and develop an understanding and knowledge of what happens when you use the methods and techniques Susan shares with you. This understanding will open a window on a whole new world of possibilities. You will see and hear as Susan deliberates each move, so you can understand her thought processes and know the reasons for her decisions. Watch as she mixes the numerous perfect color combinations and learn how she creates color trails which allow her paintings to sing with fresh clean glowing hues. See how Susan can mix virtually any color from her limited palette. A new feature of this DVD set are the short 'Garden Breaks' where Susan gives you a chance to pause between each painting stage as she highlights the beauty of a particular flower or fruit in her garden. |

| On Disc 2 Susan continues to bring her painting to life. She retains the white background until near the end. Many artists have asked her about painting 'white on white' and the decorated white porcelain bowl provides an excellent example of this. She discusses backgrounds and the different options for the painting subject of the DVD, then shows each stage of building up a background incorporating the colors and wood-grain elements of her reference photograph. Backgrounds often cause concern for artists so watch as Susan shows you how to take control of your background hues so you too, can create a luminous transparent background that perfectly compliments so many subjects.
Then enjoy a 'Gallery' of Susan's work in both watercolor and oil, with fine detail highlighted and each painting shown unframed, then framed. The 'Footnotes' section provides you with much useful and practical information. Over 5 hours of Susan's invaluable information and tuition, including insights into her thoughts processes as she guides you to a new level of expertise no matter what skill level you are at. Disc 2 contains the reference material for this project. For your convenience, those files are also available here. See details and download-links below: |

REVIEWS: A sampling of unsolicited testimonials we have recently recieved: "I feel so much more comfortable with the control of water and color on the paper, after so many years of trial and error. It is totally amazing to watch as well as listen to your teachings. I can't thank you enough for making my art experience so wide open and beautiful. I can't wait for your new DVD's and books. I personally think that its wonderful to have the DVD as well as the workshop because I can enjoy the DVD over and over again. You are amazing and I'm so thankful to you for sharing your technique with the world. You are my newest blessing and I'm loving every moment of painting! I will probable send you an email every so often to thank you because I'm just so grateful for all your inspiration! Grin "I have just received Susans DVD`s and LOVE them. I am so jealous as there is no way I will ever make one of those seminars. The dvd`s have taught me a lot and I am thrilled with them. I will be watching them many times over. Susan Thanks" "I, too, attended the Oregon seminar in July 2009. I can't find the words to say how much I enjoyed it and learned. I am a new artist and the only teaching was one class in Jr. College. There I was introduced to Susan's DVD One-on-One Watercolor Workshops DVD by a fellow student. That was when I fell in love with watercolor. " "My loving husband gave to me as a gift, a book created by you, filled with the most beautiful flowers. I'd not seen watercolor paintings so vibrant before. It was inspirational. I had been taking water color classes from the local colleges. Once seeing your techniques in the book, I wanted your DVD...and got it. My instructor has told me that I have now surpassed him and the rest of the class. I showed him and the class your book and let them know of your DVDs. I recently taught the class as part of my class project. Everyone thanked me, including the instructor. Thank you for your grace and instruction in painting. I have fallen in love with the water color medium: hydrodynamics, paper types, and delight of pigments and light. I look forward to your next books and DVDs. Several students in the class have purchased your book and DVDs now. An update: By the way, you would be proud of the great advances made by several students in my water color class since purchasing your book and DVDs. It's like sunlight found it's way to their paper (no more muddy paintings). All in the class who have purchased your water color instructional materials, have improved technique and understanding of the water color medium. They express less frustration and seem to have once again found wonderment in painting. Their new found confidence lends itself to freedom of expression. Think of it...you gave this thoughtful gift to others by sharing your knowledge of water color technique. Wouldn't it be nice if confidence could be so easily packaged for everyday life? I am doing my best to afford myself a gift: a reserved space in your water color workshop in Maine (one of my favorite states). I must save up the pennies for that one. I sent an email to Gail asking for the price of the workshop and await a reply."
